The History

The Keysi Fighting Method was born on the 12th of October 1957 in a small mining town on the outskirts of Seville in Spain, this being the birth date of Justo Dieguez Serrano. Justo, born of Old Spanish gypsy blood grew up fighting on the streets of old Spain from a very young age. "The town where I was born and lived as a child was just a very deprived and harsh place to live" says Justo "You learnt how to fight and defend yourself or suffer the consequences." By the tender age of only 10 yrs old Justo had already witnessed many bad things and quickly started to realise that if he was to make anything of his life he needed to escape. So Justo left home at 10yrs old in search of his life. Thereafter he spent 3 hard years in a monastery before he was finally sent to work down the mines just before his 14th birthday.

"I fought almost on a daily basis" says Justo "as the mine was full of convicts who where sent to work there by the local government at the time. These men where ruthless and lived with no fear of recrimination as they where already incarcerated for violent crime." This is where Justo as a young boy would fight with grown men in order to save face and not become a victim. "I never lost a fight" says Justo, "it was not in my blood to be a victim and I did whatever it took to survive these encounters. This was to be an extremely brutal period in my life and the place where I lost many of my good friends." Justo spent 6 long years in this extreme and violent environment before being involved in a horrific mining accident. The entire mine shaft collapsed trapping and killing all those in the tunnel at the time. Justo says: "I can remember hearing this almighty rumble and the next thing I knew I was in total darkness. I remember reaching out to try and touch my friend who was stood by my side as the tunnel collapsed, he had been totally crushed and no longer with me. It was at this time I lay in total darkness trapped half a kilometre underground thinking "This is it, my moment has come". I didn't know at the time but everybody else had been killed, I was the only one still alive. I lay trapped and motionless for almost 4 days before the rescue crew finally found me.

Even for Justo that was enough. He left the mines and went to join the military. Being an extreme character he found himself being put forward for the Special Forces. He quickly became the top soldier within the special units. Leading many different operations, he was a unique and very special kind of person with an extreme personality. After serving many years in the military, Justo decided that this was not to be the rest of his life and finally made the decision to leave the forces. He was to be given one of the biggest leaving ceremonies ever dedicated towards a soldier of the Special Forces."

After leaving the forces Justo finally started his journey of investigation into the world of martial arts. Justo studied and achieved instructor level in many, many different martial arts but never found what he was looking for. Receiving many promises, most of which were unfulfilled, Justo quickly realised that the truth lies inside oneself. So his interior journey began. Whilst on this journey he came across the non-conformist and controversial Andy Norman. Andy who was born in Yorkshire, England back in 1965 was of a similar mentality and through his life found himself on a similar journey to Justo. Andy fought a lot in the street throughout his teenage years and early adulthood due to his anarchic character. Learning many valuable lessons Andy began to study and investigate the physical and emotional sides of the street further. Although Justo and Andy were from different backgrounds and cultures they both sought the same path. Then one fine day destiny crossed their paths. This was to be the true beginning of what is known today as the KEYSI FIGHTING METHOD. Justo and Andy continue to research and develop the KFM on a daily basis;" Investigation is the blood of KFM" says Andy "it's what fuels it and gives it life."
